76. In Broad Daylight: Lucy Grez

In August of 1963, a brutal murder occurred in an unlikely setting.

In the idyllic, seaside community of Spring Lake, NJ - the wealthiest of Philadelphia & New York City summered in spacious estates, walked the quiet beach, and grabbed lunch at the local luncheonette.

One resident, 65-year-old Lucy Grez was sitting down to watch TV at 7 pm when a trio of masked intruders entered her home.

Lucy’s murder launched an investigation that spanned 13 states and 2 continents. Her widower, Alphons Grez, was the Chilean Consul and had some enemies due to his stance on communism. Was the murder politically-driven?

Who killed Lucy?

If you have any information about the murder of Lucy Grez, please contact the Spring Lake Police at 732-449-1234.
